There is one every summer.

A song that feels always and everywhere: on the radio, in the club, at every festival, on the beach, on the headphones of the person sitting next to you on the train.

That sounds like long nights and makes you want to dance - the summer hit.

The Society for Consumer Research officially awards the summer hit in Germany, usually at the beginning of August.

Last year the title went to "Savage Love" by Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685. The song became popular mainly through a dance challenge on the TikTok video platform.

And this year?

We've already scoured the charts for possible candidates.

For example, there is Dua Lipa: The 25-year-old singer has been reliably producing one pop hit after another for several years.

This summer, together with the rapper DaBaby and “Levitating”, she creates the mood: “If you wanna run away with me, I know a galaxy”, it says in the text - it sounds quite tempting.

Ed Sheeran, on the other hand, seems to have ended up in the underworld: In the music video for his single "Bad Habits", the Brit appears as a vampire and surprises with a much more synthetic sound than before.

"I can't do more dance tracks than 'Bad Habit'," Sheeran told the radio station SWR3.

He came up with the song through his daughter, who was born in August 2020: "My daughter changed my life and drove me out of my bad habits."

Måneskin is hard to imagine this summer.

The Italian rock band took first place in the Eurovision Song Contest in May with “Zitti e Buoni”.

They can also score points with their following titles: Their Four Seasons cover “Beggin '” doesn't sound like a typical summer hit when you first listen to it, but it makes you long for club nights and festivals.

Newcomer Olivia Rodrigo is also currently high in the charts.

The 18-year-old American celebrated her first successes with “Drivers License” in January and has since added an album and the title “good 4 u”.

Both titles are about heartbreak, but “good 4 u” is much more rock and made it to number 1 in the “Songs of Summer” ranking of the streaming service Spotify last week.

In complete contrast to this, the Puerto Rican Rauw Alejandro focuses on being in love with “Todo De Ti” and sings about his dream woman to catchy beats.

The Spanish newspaper El País, for example, is already celebrating him as a new idol in Latin pop heaven, and Jennifer Lopez has also noticed Rauw Alejandro.

In any case, “Todo De Ti” can be easily imagined at the beach bar.

The song "Butter" by BTS is similarly catchy.

It is the second English-language single by the Korean boy band, which invites you to dance in the best dance-pop fashion.

Meanwhile, Doja Cat and SZA rely on a mixture of pop, R'n'B and disco: “Kiss Me More”.

The name says it all: “I just wanted to make a song about kissing.

I thought that would be cute, ”said Doja Cat in an interview.
