Covid Nine times more hospitalizations than last summer despite the vaccine
Coronavirus How many vaccines have been given in Spain?
This is how vaccination against Covid-19 advances in each community
It is the most recent report, the most up-to-date made in Italy. It measures more and more reliably the impact of
vaccines
on the course of
Covid infections
in parallel with the progress of the campaign that extends immunization to larger and larger sectors of the population. The period examined by the
Italian Higher Institute of Health, in
charge of the report, includes the last 30 days. This is a more accurate snapshot because the number of vaccinated is now on the order of several million and allows reflections on the difference between who is vaccinated and who is not yet.
The first effect is the
global efficacy of the vaccine,
which "is greater than
70%
in preventing infection in vaccinated with
incomplete
cycle
" and "greater than
88%
for vaccinated with
complete
cycle
".
The effectiveness in
preventing hospitalization
amounts to "80.8% with incomplete cycle" and "94.6% with complete cycle".
While "in the
prevention of admission to intensive care it
is 88.1% with incomplete cycle and 97.3% with complete cycle".
About the
deaths
,
the slide is encouraging: "The effectiveness is 79% with incomplete cycle and 95.8% with complete cycle."
With a methodological note: these are estimates that do not take into account factors that could influence the assessment, such as the presence of "comorbidities" in infected subjects, that is, with pathologies that could multiply the risk.
The range of 12 to 39 years
This is the age group that started about a month ago with the administration of the vaccine in Italy.
Now it has entered the heart of the campaign.
It has an almost irrelevant Covid lethality index, but it has greater mobility and, therefore, greater capacity for the virus to transmit.
The
88.4% of infections
in the last month and in this age group occurred in
unvaccinated subjects
.
8.1% of the cases had been covered with one dose.
3.4% with two doses.
97.2% of hospitalizations correspond to people without coverage and only 0.8% of those who have completed the vaccination cycle.
There were zero deaths for those who were vaccinated, while 87.5% of adverse events were recorded among those who were not vaccinated.
The range of 40 to 59 years
In this age group there are similar differences between those who are not vaccinated and those who are.
71.3% of
Covid
cases
this last month, reports the ISS, refer to subjects
without vaccination coverage
, 19.7% had received a dose, only 9% had completed the vaccination cycle.
In this age group, there was zero risk of vaccinated people ending up in intensive care.
There are no reported cases because
95.7% of those who needed oxygen were not vaccinated
.
Even in similar proportions of deaths: 90% were not vaccinated, only 2% had received both doses and 8% only one.
The range of 60 to 79 years
In this range, the lethality of
Covid
is more relevant.
In the last month the proportions have shifted, tipping the balance largely on the side of the vaccinated.
47.7% of the new cases were not vaccinated, while only 18.2% had completed the vaccination cycle.
Of those who ended up in
intensive care, 71.2% had no coverage
, with a double dose the percentage dropped to 3%, to 25.8% with a single dose.
73.1% of the deceased were not vaccinated, only 5.6% had completed their course.
Over 80
Also in this range there is a substantial difference between vaccinated and unvaccinated.
Among those hospitalized, the gap shortens only for ordinary hospitalizations: 49.9% of hospitalized patients were not vaccinated compared to 42.1% who were.
But 80.8% of those who ended up in the ICU on ventilation had not received the vaccine and only 19.2% had received the full two-dose cycle.
Deaths also affect those who did not want to be vaccinated by 65.9%.
