The Spanish actress Pilar Bardem, mother of actor Javier Bardem, died yesterday at the age of 82, her children announced in a statement posted on social media.

"We want to inform you that our mother and model, Pilar Bardem, has passed away," they wrote in the statement.

And the three children, Carlos, Monica and Javier, added in a post on Carlos' account on Twitter: "She left in peace without suffering, surrounded by the love of her family."

Pilar Bardem was born in Seville in 1939, her parents were also actors, and she is the sister of the famous director Juan Antonio Bardem.

Her three sons also acted, and one of them, Javier, gained international fame, winning an Oscar for his role in the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Man.

The late actress has dozens of films, plays and series, and she also won the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actress in Spain, for her role in a film by Augustin Diaz in 1995. Pilar Bardem was also the mother-in-law of the Academy Award-winning actress, Penelope Cruz, who is married to Javier Bardem.
