Launched by the Listening to the World platform, the “Dream City” call for participation invited contributors from around the world to capture and transmit sounds from their environment, now mapped and freely accessible on the sound map.
But how to build “The Dream City”?
Is it a sound mosaic, made up of multiple echoes from other cities?
Authors and artists use soundscapes to build their “dream city”, real or imaginary.
With the contributors to Listening to the World, Monica Fantini imagined a city made of memories.
“Sound dream of cities in memory” consists of recordings captured in distant cities.
The sound memories of voices heard in the streets of other cities resonate in our memories and build a city within a city.
With contributions:
- Molenbeek, Brussels, Belgium: A sound walk around the market, by
Colin Hunter
- Havana, Cuba: Habana Vieja, by
Marjolaine Leclancher
- Demonia, Peloponnese, Greece: Ferrailleur, by
Céline Della Savia
- Paris, France: the market in rue Mouffetard in 1950, archive of Michel Créïs
Through recordings of life here and there and sound creations, the participatory platform of
Listening to the World
aims to collect, edit, archive and exploit a world sound heritage.
