According to the police, at around 3:40 pm on the 18th, there was a report that "friends are drowning" at the Shikaimo fishing port in Shinminato-cho, Hakodate.
A search by the fire department found an 18-year-old high school boy living in Hakodate unconsciously sinking in the sea and was taken to a hospital, but was later confirmed dead.
According to the police, the high school boy was visiting the fishing port with four friends, and the friends said, "I couldn't see him if I was swimming together in the fishing port."
In Hokkaido, swimming in the fishing port has been prohibited since 2017, and police are investigating the detailed situation at the time of the accident.
