The professional integration of migrant and refugee artisans comes up against many obstacles.

Difficult for them to exercise their trades abroad.

Today, as part of the series - in partnership with La Fabrique Nomade - devoted to refugees and craftswomen, we are showing you the work of Serap Karabulut, hand and machine embroiderer.

For this embroiderer, returning to her profession was like a rebirth.

Publicity

I am very happy in the creativity.

I have worked for a salary but it does not satisfy me to be happy.

Serap Karabulut was born in Turkey.

She began her training very early, at 14 years old.

In the Turkish tradition, the work on the fabric with thread and a needle is very present, embroidery, sewing, canvas.

Serap Karabulut mainly embroiders for herself, her family and loved ones.

She also decorates her house with unique pieces.

It's a pleasure that she doesn't really see as a profession.

Come back to your creativity

When she arrived in France in 2006, she completely stopped embroidery.

She then worked to earn a salary and take care of her children.

It is with the training that she followed at La Fabrique Nomade that she regains her self-confidence.

She rediscovers the pleasure of embroidery by mixing colors, techniques, cultures and ideas for future projects.

Creativity is very important.

I've always done something and now I'm going to mix the techniques: textile painting, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, Lunéville technique too.

The Lunéville technique is a specialty of crochet embroidery with sequins.

I like it, I learned at La Fabrique nomade, I want to progress and apply this technique in my future project,

 ”she says.

Perseverance and patience

Serap Karabulut thanks to his experience wants to deliver a message of hope.

Do not give up your dream, your know-how, always keep your know-how and its culture.

Before I did not know the sector at all, nor the people with the contacts, but now I can find a job, now I know it is possible.

Before I didn't know it, that's why I put aside my know-how and gave up.

Now I work as a self-entrepreneur, I learn and do something new every day and it interests me a lot.

She

continues.
