As one of the main building materials of ancient buildings, blue bricks have a long history of firing in China.
There is an ancient brick kiln in Chuan Town, Renqiu City, Hebei Province that was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. The ancient brick factory in Chuan Town, Renqiu City, built on this basis, has always followed the traditional handmade brick-making process to make blue bricks. A piece of blue brick has to go through processes such as soil extraction, air drying, billet making, kiln loading, and kiln discharge. The finished blue bricks here have been used in the renovation projects of ancient buildings such as the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, and the East Tomb of the Qing Dynasty.
In 2012, the ancient building blue brick making skills were selected into the Hebei Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
