According to the state leader, French cinema was awarded for audacity and originality in Cannes.
The closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival took place on Saturday 17 July.
In addition to Ducorno, Italian filmmaker Marco Bellocchio also received the Palme d'Or.
The Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival was awarded to two films - "Compartment number six" by the Finnish director Juho Kuosmanen and "Hero" by the Iranian Asgar Farhadi.
In total, 24 films took part in the program of the film festival this year.
