China News Service, Zhuhai, July 17 (Reporter Deng Yuanwen) On the 17th, the Information Office of the People's Government of Zhuhai City issued a third report on the rescue situation of the Shijingshan Tunnel construction section of the Xingye Express (south section) project.

As of 9 o'clock on the 17th, the rescue operation surface has advanced 491.97 meters into the tunnel, 668.03 meters away from the trapped point, and the overall water level in the tunnel has dropped by about 8 meters.

However, after more than 50 hours of continuous rescue, the trapped persons are still unable to be contacted.

Zhang Yisheng, the deputy mayor of Zhuhai City, said that in the past two days, the national joint working group and provincial and municipal leaders have been on-site commanding, focusing on tunnel water extraction, reservoir leakage stop and backfill, temporary slag storage, and hydrology. Geological disaster management and control, meteorological monitoring, emergency communication support, etc. are researched and deployed one by one.

At present, various tasks are proceeding in an orderly manner.

Zhang Yisheng introduced that in response to the complex situation encountered in rescue work, a series of targeted measures have been taken from the afternoon of the 16th to the present. The ventilation conditions in the tunnel have been improved, the time of carbon monoxide concentration exceeding the standard has been greatly reduced, and the continuity of rescue work has been improved. The efficiency has been improved, and the work of drainage, mud disposal, and comprehensive monitoring in the tunnel has continued to advance.

In view of the connection between the cave’s mountain fissures and the reservoir, and the continuous replenishment of the reservoir’s water storage, 20 sets of equipment and more than 110 operators have been put in. The vault backfilling was completed at 15:00 on July 16th, with a total of about 11,000 fillings. square.

Zhang Yisheng said that the next step will be under the unified deployment of the on-site headquarters, and continue to increase work in five aspects: First, step up the drainage of water according to actual conditions. Under the circumstances, the tunnel roof shall be monitored and reinforced in sections to prevent collapse.

The second is to further strengthen the tunnel ventilation, reduce the concentration of harmful gases, and ensure that the gas indicators in the tunnel meet the construction safety requirements.

The third is to make further technical preparations, combine the actual situation that the collapsed body enters the cave with the flow of water, refine the dredging work in the cave, and explore ways to search and rescue the trapped people by means of frogman launching.

The fourth is to do a good job in sanitation and epidemic prevention and risk prevention and control, and strengthen water body monitoring, sanitation and disinfection work.

Fifth, do a good job in comforting the families of the trapped persons.

It is understood that the Guangdong Provincial Government established an investigation team for the "7·15" flooding accident of Shijingshan Tunnel in Zhuhai City on the 16th, clarifying the responsibilities, tasks and related requirements of the accident investigation, and will conduct a comprehensive investigation of the accident.
