In response to the severe losses suffered by some overseas Chinese and personnel of Chinese-funded enterprises in the riots in South Africa, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated on July 16 that China has requested relevant departments of the South African government to increase protection for Chinese citizens and enterprises in South Africa, and South Africa promised Efforts will be made to protect the lives and property of Chinese citizens in South Africa.

  In recent days, protests and demonstrations have taken place in South Africa's Kwana and Gauteng provinces, and have triggered violent riots such as beating, smashing, looting and burning.

Chinese personnel in South Africa were also affected. Some overseas Chinese and personnel from Chinese-funded enterprises in South Africa suffered severe losses during the riots.

  In this regard, Zhao Lijian said that China is highly concerned about the current developments in South Africa and supports the South African government's efforts to stop violence and chaos. He believes that under the leadership of President Ramaphosa, the South African government can restore social order and economic stability as soon as possible.

  Zhao Lijian said that we are concerned that some Chinese citizens in South Africa have suffered severe property losses and serious threats to their lives during the riots. China has requested the relevant departments of the South African government to increase the protection of Chinese citizens and enterprises in South Africa.
