Air France will offer its customers the option of integrating health data into their tickets allowing them to travel, in order to facilitate their passage through the airport.

For its part, the SNCF is working on a similar device, but which will only be operational "in several months".

Air France passengers will receive, a few days before the flight, an email inviting them to send "their health documents via an online platform," the company said in a press release on Thursday.

This decision comes four days after the announcement of the extension of the health pass to long-distance transport in France.

Avoid successive checks

“These documents are then verified and subject to their compliance, a confirmation message is sent to the customer.

The boarding cards issued will then be marked "Ready to Fly" allowing rapid consideration by Air France teams at the airport on the day of departure, "the company added.

"This free and optional service also makes the customer journey at the airport more fluid, avoiding successive checks", argued Air France, stressing that it will be deployed from Saturday to Corsica and Overseas Territories, then " gradually over the summer to a growing number of destinations ”.

The transmission platform will comply with European rules on data protection (GDPR), underlined an Air France spokesperson: “Documents downloaded by passengers are stored temporarily for the time strictly necessary for verification and then are destroyed.

SNCF is working on "a system that is as simple and fluid as possible"

Faced with the threat of the Delta variant of Covid-19, the President of the Republic announced on Monday the extension of the health pass to long-distance transport in France: trains, coaches and planes.

The adaptation of the aviation sector to these new constraints could be faster than for other carriers, because it was already necessary to present an immunity certificate or negative test to travel by plane abroad.

As for the French railways, the SNCF said on Thursday that it was working “on the feasibility of integrating the control of the health pass as soon as the ticket is purchased online on oui.sncf, but this perspective is complex on the technical plan ". “In any case, it would not be a solution for all travelers, nor for the short term, but for several months. The priority is therefore to implement a physical control system for the health pass that will be operational from August, ”the public company said in a press release.

In the immediate term, "in order to facilitate travel, SNCF Voyageurs will set up systematic information for customers on their obligations, by SMS and email reminders when purchasing the ticket and before their trip in particular", according to the same. source.

SNCF has also recognized that "the implementation of a control system for health passes is particularly complex and will take several weeks before being operational".

These practical arrangements “are being defined with the government” and “not yet decided”.

"The objective is to have a device as simple and fluid as possible, so as not to penalize travelers with a health pass," promised the carrier.
