While vaccination with the new corona virus is progressing, it is possible that the number of clusters at medical institutions has decreased by more than 300 due to the effect of vaccination on medical staff that started in February. A group of Professor Hiroshi Nishiura of Kyoto University and others compiled the estimation.

This estimate was presented by Professor Nishiura at an expert meeting of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare held on the 14th.

For the period from November to June last year, the group analyzed data such as the status of infections nationwide and the status of vaccination of healthcare workers starting in February, and provided them to healthcare professionals. We estimated how vaccination affected the number of outbreaks in clusters of 5 or more.

As a result,

it seems that

1060

clusters occurred at

medical institutions

without vaccination of medical staff, and

1631

clusters occurred at

facilities for the elderly,

whereas

896 cases at medical institutions

with vaccination.

Since

it was estimated to be

1476 cases at facilities for the elderly

, the total number of cases was 319 less.

According to the group, this estimation does not include the effects of priority vaccination for the elderly and vaccination in the workplace that started after that, Professor Nishiura said, "Inoculation to the elderly and the general public will proceed. The number of clusters should decrease further in the future. It is a tribute to the effect of the vaccine, and it is bright news in the severe infection situation. "
