Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Education issued the "Notice on Supporting the Exploration and Development of Summer Custody Services" to guide and support places where conditions permit to actively explore the development of summer custody services.

Nowadays, many places have successively launched summer custody services.

What are the concerns and expectations of the parents of this student?

This week, the Social Survey Center of China Youth Daily conducted a survey of 2053 primary school students' parents through the questionnaire website (wenjuan.com), which showed that 74.6% of the parents interviewed would consider participating in summer care organized by the education system.

Whether the schedule is in line with the children's interests (66.7%) and whether safety management measures are in place (65.9%) are the contents that the interviewed parents are more concerned about.

61.1% of the interviewed parents look forward to strengthening the participation of social forces and enriching the content of summer custody.

Among the interviewed parents, 31.1% came from first-tier cities, 40.5% from second-tier cities, 20.9% from third- and fourth-tier cities, 6.1% from counties or towns, and 1.4% from rural areas.

81.6% of the parents interviewed said they would be troubled by their children's summer vacation

Zhang Min (pseudonym) whose hometown is in Dalian, the child is now in the third grade of elementary school in Beijing. She usually arranges the child’s summer life early. I will enroll children in summer interest classes such as painting."

Dong Xin (pseudonym), who lives in Tianjin, usually arranges some interest classes for children in elementary school during the summer vacation. "The child participates in the school football team, and sometimes there will be training during the vacation, plus other interest classes, the summer life is quite fulfilling. ".

Statistics show that in the summer vacation arrangements for their children, 45.9% of the parents interviewed would leave their children in the care of their elders or other relatives, and 43.6% of the parents interviewed would report their children to summer camps, study tours and other projects.

Other arrangements include: attending tutoring classes (43.4%), attending interest classes (40.8%), entrusting them to a trusteeship agency (32.5%), taking the children to travel (27.2%) and leaving the children at home alone (26.9%).

After 1985, Zhao Feng (pseudonym) lived in Langfang, Hebei, and her children were in elementary school.

Zhao Feng said that every summer vacation must be arranged early for the children’s life, such as some summer camps and interest classes, it is necessary to register early. "Before the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the children had to apply for summer vacation research and tourism projects. In the past two years, they will basically choose locals. Trustees or online extracurricular classes.”

Zhang Min said frankly that although he wants to enrich his child's summer life, there are always times when he can't see it in his own photos.

"Send the child back to his hometown, and the elders will spoil the child. Although they will list a daily plan, such as how many pages to read and how many words to practice, the child can't take care of the study plan when he is happy, or he is holding a mobile phone or tablet. Play for hours".

In the survey, 81.6% of the parents interviewed would be troubled by their children's summer vacation.

Among them, the proportion of parents surveyed in second-tier cities having troubles is even higher (83.9%).

Parents interviewed in summer care are most concerned about whether the schedule is in line with their children's interests

In the survey, 74.6% of the parents interviewed indicated that they would consider participating in summer care organized by the education system, and the proportion of parents interviewed in first-tier cities would consider it even higher (79.3%).

Zhang Min said that the school has issued a notice about summer care, but he has arranged the child's summer life, so he did not sign up this time.

At the same time, she also wants to know more about the organization of the summer custody.

"Although we understand that children will be arranged to study independently and the school reading room will be opened at the same time, we still pay more attention to the specific arrangements of daily life. Can we supervise children to complete daily homework? How much time is there for children to participate in outdoor activities? "

Regarding summer care services, 66.7% of the parents surveyed are concerned about whether the schedule is in line with their children’s interests, 65.9% of the parents surveyed are concerned about whether safety management measures are in place, and 61.5% of the parents surveyed are concerned about whether the teachers are adequate and professional.

Other aspects that the interviewed parents are concerned about include: whether the service content is clear and meticulous (55.6%), whether the charge price is reasonable (47.4%), whether the time can be fully and efficiently used (42.8%), and whether it helps to improve the overall quality of the child (41.7) %)Wait.

"After a semester of study, children also need to relax." Zhao Feng felt that the content of summer care could be richer, giving children more opportunities to "go out and move", "or carry out some community charity activities," Let children have more contact with society and increase their knowledge."

Zhang Hu (pseudonym), a teacher from a middle school in Xi'an, told reporters that the school currently offers students a total of 4 summer questions and answers, once every 7 days, and students voluntarily participate.

"This method allows students to have certain restrictions during the summer vacation. Most of the students who did not participate were their parents who arranged travel, tuition in institutions, or returned to their hometowns."

Zhang Hu is also concerned about the summer hosting recently launched in other places. She thinks that summer hosting should mainly meet the needs of students’ vacations in order to be more popular with children. “If you just arrange for students to do homework in the classroom, it’s not conducive to improving students. Quality".

Zhang Li (pseudonym) is a senior student in a university in Wuhan. In the summer of 2019, he participated in the local summer care service as a volunteer. He is mainly responsible for looking after the lower grades of elementary school students, tutoring students to complete summer homework, and leading the children to play games.

"Summer custody is carried out in a special youth space, and the venue facilities are relatively complete."

Zhang Li thinks that such an opportunity is a good summer social practice for college students, and it can also solve the problem that parents cannot take care of their children.

Regarding the content of summer care, 77.4% of the parents surveyed hope to cultivate their children's hobbies, 70.4% of the parents surveyed hope to arrange physical exercise, and 65.6% of the parents surveyed hope to supervise the completion of summer homework.

Others include: reading (52.3%), manual labor (42.2%), social practice (40.2%) and popular science lectures (37.2%).

61.1% of the parents surveyed look forward to strengthening the participation of social forces and enriching the content of summer custody

Dong Xin expects that summer trusteeship can be independent of the school and allow more social actors to participate. "For example, many community public services are now relatively complete. There are fitness centers and libraries. If conditions permit, you can arrange trusteeship in the nearby community."

Zhang Li feels that if you want to do a good job in summer care, you need to further optimize the schedule to make the children's daily activities more substantial and reasonable. "For example, it can be divided, when is the time for the children to participate in group activities, and which time is for some personalized interest activities."

In addition, he believes that it is also more important to solve the problem of teachers. "If all school teachers are responsible, it does increase the burden of teachers. I think school teachers, college students and community workers can form a trustee team, like some Interest groups can also cooperate with regional cultural and technological venues to maximize social forces."

Regarding summer custody services, 61.1% of the parents surveyed look forward to increasing the participation of social forces and enriching the content of custody; 55.0% of the parents surveyed suggested enriching teachers and strengthening the quality of custody; 54.6% of the parents surveyed expected to further refine the content arrangements of custody services ; 53.6% of the interviewed parents suggested that they ensure at least two hours of outdoor activities a day.

The expectations of the interviewed parents also include: fully opening up classrooms, reading rooms and other campus places (51.5%), strengthening the safety management of custody places (47.1%), and strengthening cooperation with children's palaces and cultural tourism technology places (38.7%).

Li Liguo, professor and deputy dean of the School of Education of Renmin University of China, believes that the nature of summer custody services must be clear. First of all, the nature of public welfare. Summer custody services can charge a certain fee, but the price is relatively low.

Second, the summer is a vacation and not a school, and the hosting service cannot be an after-school tutoring. A variety of activities can be arranged for students. “Guide students to complete summer homework, arrange appropriate sports and entertainment activities, and improve students' physical exercise ability and aesthetics. Appreciation ability, while allowing students to improve social communication skills through collective activities, and enhance the relationship between students."

He said that summer custody services can be carried out not only in schools, and public places such as children's palaces and libraries can be carried out in summer custody services.

"The service staff for summer care does not necessarily have to be school teachers. You can include library and children’s palace staff as instructors for summer care services to enrich the source of teachers. College students and graduate students can also participate in summer care services. ".
