The Gadagne museums in Lyon have just acquired a sketch from the architect Claude Perret on which is drawn the imposing scaffolding that was used to install, in 1713, the equestrian statue of Louis XIV on Place Bellecour, baptized at that time. , place Louis-le-Grand.

The geometric drawing is accompanied by a handwritten text from the architect showing how to lift "the horse" and then place it on its pedestal.

The operation took place on December 27 and 28 of that year.

The sketch in question, which was part of a private collection, was bought at auction on June 29, we learned on Tuesday.

It joins the collections of the History Museum of Gadagne which preserves many paintings, drawings and engravings representing the urban evolution of the city.

Three complementary works

The establishment now has three complementary works relating to the installation and inauguration of this statue, with an oil on canvas by Charles Grandon (made around 1715) and an engraving by Antoine Leclerc interpreting the handwritten text of Claude Perret's drawing. , already present in its collections.

"This corpus of three works of different nature thus makes it possible to strengthen the museum's knowledge of this historical event and of the procedures of the operation," explains the establishment in a press release.
