The Cannes Film Festival in France, one of the three major film festivals in the world, has set up an environment-themed section for the first time, and is showing a series of works focusing on young people from around the world who are working on environmental measures.

The Cannes Film Festival couldn't be held last year due to the influence of the new coronavirus, but this year it was held face-to-face for the first time in two years, and many people are rushing every day to see new films collected from all over the world.

In addition to the traditional categories such as the competition category for the highest award Palme d'Or and the "Un Certain Regard" category, which is a collection of innovative movies, an environment-themed category has been newly established.

Films focusing on young people around the world who are working on environmental measures are screened one after another, showing the attitude of tackling global issues as a film festival.

In addition, this means that the directors and actors are less likely to change the walking red carpet, and they are also environmentally friendly by stopping the distribution of drinks in plastic bottles.

François Delseau, the director of the Cannes Film Festival, said in an interview with NHK on the 12th, "By working as a film festival, we can raise awareness of the problem. We want to contribute to environmental measures through movies."
