The Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

The department, bordering Spain, is the first, in metropolitan France, to pass above the incidence rate of 100. It was 103 per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 7 days on Monday, against 35 on average in France.

It is the only department (excluding overseas) above 100. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the number of new positive cases has exploded by 605.7% in one week.

What is happening in the Pyrénées-Orientales (Occitanie), was there a cluster?

The number of new cases has multiplied by 7 in one week (growth rate of 600% against 60% in France!).

this Monday morning, the state services in the department did not wish to give more information for the moment.

On Friday, in a press release, the prefecture and the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Occitanie indicated that an "action plan" had been deployed at the level of the department, "following the very significant increase in case of contamination by the Delta variant, in this territory, which represents an 80% increase in one week ”, in particular a new call for vaccination or a strengthening of screening operations.

"These contaminations occur most of the time during festive events or gatherings in bars which have been listed in Spain but also in the department", state services indicated on Friday.
