Unexpected results of a study that reveals “Corona reservoirs” in the human body

A group of pathologists, dentists and otolaryngologists from the University of San Paulo School of Medicine in Brazil announced that the emerging coronavirus multiplies in the salivary glands.

According to “Russia Today”, which reported the report, the scientists studied three models of salivary glands (parotid, submandibular and small) taken from adult patients who died due to “Covid 19”, and discovered that the tissues responsible for the production and secretion of saliva are “reservoirs”. for infection.

Using an electron microscope, the researchers discovered not only the presence of the virus in them, but also its reproduction in cells.

“Until now, only viruses that cause common diseases, such as herpes, were thought to use salivary glands as reservoirs,” says researcher Bruno Fernandez Matuk.

But our finding may help explain why SARS-CoV-2 is so infectious.”

The researchers had previously discovered in the ducts of the salivary glands ACE2 receptors, to which the spike protein of the emerging coronavirus (S protein) binds and turns it into a “gateway” to infection.

As scientists have previously demonstrated, besides the ACE2 receptor, there are at least two receptors, MPRSS2 and Furin in the salivary glands (Transmembrane protease serine 2) that the virus targets.

Although the prevailing belief today is that the infection enters the body mainly through the nose, scientists, based on the results of this study, will test whether the mouth is suitable as a mediator for the virus to enter directly into the body.
