If the number of Covid-19 patients in hospital and in critical care services continues to decline, contaminations continue to increase, according to data from Public Health France, published on Thursday.

In total, 7,384 Covid patients are hospitalized (including 100 new hospitalizations in 24 hours), against 7,539 on Wednesday.

Less than 1,000 patients in intensive care

And 971 serious cases are treated in critical care services (including 26 new admissions in 24 hours), against 997 cases Wednesday and about 2,400 a month earlier.

The number of patients in critical care due to Covid fell below 1,000 on Wednesday, for the first time since September 23.

But if the hospital's numbers continue to drop, the number of cases has tended to increase again in recent days, which is attributed to the Delta variant, which is more contagious.

According to Public Health France, 4,442 new contaminations were recorded in the last 24 hours, against 4,081 the day before and around 2,600 a week ago.

The positivity rate (percentage of people tested positive out of all people who have taken a test) is also up to 1%, against 0.9% on Wednesday.

25 new deaths were recorded at the hospital in 24 hours, bringing the total toll since the start of the epidemic to 111,313 deaths.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 35,333,191 people have received at least one injection (or 52.4% of the total population) and 26,302,376 people have been fully vaccinated (or 39% of the population).
