The health authorities in Germany reported slightly more cases to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) with 970 new corona infections within 24 hours than in the previous week.

This is evident from the numbers from Thursday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 7:40 a.m.

A week ago the value was 892 infections.

The RKI gave the seven-day incidence nationwide as 5.2 (previous day: 5.1; previous week: 5.1).

The reproduction number, which is decisive for the speed of spread of the coronavirus, is above the threshold of 1. The RKI gave the so-called 7-day R-value on Thursday as 1.09 (previous day: 1.01).

This means that 100 infected people infect an additional 109 people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

The R-value was well below 1 for many weeks, but recently rose relatively continuously.

According to experts, this could be due to the spread of the more contagious Delta variant (B.1.617.2) and to easing the corona restrictions.

According to the RKI, the delta variant dominates for the first time in Germany with a share of 59 percent.

According to the new information, 31 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 63 dead.

The RKI has counted 3,733,519 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,632,500.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,141.

According to the RKI, the rate of vaccination in Germany has recently decreased somewhat.

In the past week up to and including Sunday, an average of 710,100 doses per day were administered, according to the RKI situation report from Wednesday evening.

In the previous week there were 800,500 cans per day.

In the week before, there was an average of more than 820,000 cans per day.

Of the vaccines delivered up to and including Sunday, 93 percent of the doses had been inoculated by BioNTech / Pfizer (Comirnaty), 91 percent by Moderna, 78 percent by AstraZeneca and 56 percent by Johnson & Johnson by Tuesday.

So far, more than 57 percent of people in Germany have received a first dose of vaccine, around 40 percent are fully vaccinated.
