The Cannes Film Festival is back and with it the red carpet as a scene of extravagant couture dresses.

The endless staircase with the far too high steps that form the way into the festival palace has always been the shop window for designers and jewelry manufacturers.

After a year of forced festival break, during which even the stars were seen in jogging pants during interviews by zoom at home, the actresses, models and directors are now returning to the Côte d'Azur in large robes.

Above all Spike Lee, who is president of the film jury this year, never minced words in press conferences to denounce grievances, and is noticeable at every appearance with flamboyant suits. At the opening gala he appeared in a pink two-piece suit with matching sunglasses, which he exchanged in the building for his trademark, dark horn-rimmed glasses. And since Lee doesn't have to climb the steps in high heels like the female guests (Cannes sticks to traditions here too), he combined a pair of Nike sneakers that were specially made for him. His portrait with the title “Jury President” is embroidered on the tongue of the right shoe. The left side shows him, as he can also be seen on this year's festival poster, in his role as Mars Blackmon in “She's Gotta Have it”.He first appeared in Cannes with the film in 1986, and now he is the “first person of the African diaspora to preside over the Cannes jury”, as he himself put it in front of journalists.

    Bright colors, eye-catching accessories

He was not the only one who dared to use bright colors and eye-catching accessories: Actress Helen Mirren turned in a sun-yellow dress in front of the cameras and obviously had fun dancing her pleats. The German influencer Leonie Hanne executed pastel green chiffon cascades with rose-colored feather accents. And the Russian-French actress Elena Lenina had put on a braid the size of an archway, with which she could keep unpleasant people at a minimum distance that was compliant with Corona. Bella Hadid, who appeared with a long train at the gala of the opening film “Annette”, thought it was more elegant, but no less expansive. In general, trains and capes were the most frequently seen drama accessory for the red carpet - when you return to the hustle and bustle of the festival, then with all the force of a Hollywood diva.

But now you are asked: who wore the most beautiful gala look? Do you rather convince the simple restraint of some French film divas - or can it be more extravagant than with other visitors? Vote:
