The 75th Festival d'Avignon opened on Monday evening in the main courtyard of the Palais des Papes.

The poetry of the great Russian playwright Anton Tchekov resonated against the immense walls of the palace with

La Cerisaie

directed by Tiago Rodrigues.

The Portuguese director had been appointed a few hours before the Festival's next director.

He will succeed Olivier Py in September 2022.
