Her favorite quote:

“Love is an incredible force.

You will draw immense power from it… ”

Why this book?

  • Because it is a novel about the transmission of human values

and because it is also a book on Martinique.

  • Because you have to read it to understand Martinique

in all its components, historical, sociological, human ... but also to understand the world around us.

  • Because it deals in simple and accessible terms with the human condition

at its most universal, and its challenges to come.

  • Because this book is fun to read.

Short chapters punctuated by a thrilling investigation that raise philosophical reflections ...

  • Because this work delivers a message

    as lucid as it is optimistic about life;

you can even see a love book there.

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

Recta Linea

is a mysterious investigation into a Martinican life, punctuated by strange letters, from an unknown godmother, received by Gabriel.

Gradually, family secrets will be revealed and point to the current challenges of our connected society ...

Characters.

Gabriel and an unknown godmother who signs mysterious letters every day ...

Places.

The story takes place in Martinique, a small French island in the Caribbean.

The time.

We are in the contemporary era which results from a long past, due to slavery in Martinique, sometimes painful.

A past that we go through throughout the pages to better anchor ourselves in the present.

The author.

Emmanuel de Reynal is an actor involved in the economic and social life of Martinique.

Born in 1965 in Fort-de-France, he made a career in regional advertising and actively participated in the community life of his island.

He is the author of

Ubuntu, which I

 published in April 2020.

This book was read with

passion because this book is short but dense.

He sorts out facts and their representations, between reality and fantasies, between history and memory, and thus offers us an enlightened look at ourselves.

It offers a clear and optimistic philosophy for leading life.
