For the first time in the history of Chile, a constituent assembly elected by universal suffrage will set about drafting a new fundamental law which will replace the Constitution inherited from the Pinochet dictatorship.

The 155 citizens elected in May are starting work this Sunday, July 4, 2021, which should last between 9 and 12 months.

The Constitution currently in place protects the neoliberal model inherited from the Pinochet dictatorship.
