• Blue Origin Wally Funk, one of the 'Mercury 13' who was not allowed to be an astronaut because she was a woman, will go into space with the Bezos brothers

  • The most exclusive vacations: Space tourism finally takes off in 2021

The tycoons of the planet have found in the space sector a field to show their power. The American Jeff Bezos, the South African Elon Musk and the British Richard Branson compete fiercely to become the pioneers of private tourist space flights. And what better test of confidence for future customers than to get on their spaceships themselves.

Now they compete to be the first.

If Jeff Bezos, founder of the aerospace company Blue Origin, announced just over a month ago that he and his brother would travel on the first flight with astronauts in their

New Shepard

vehicle

,

Richard Branson, owner of Virgin Galactic, has been ahead of him by little more than a week.

Days after his company obtained the license for suborbital space travel, Branson just announced that he will debut his spacecraft on July 11.

Branson's journey with Virgin Galactic will be a suborbital flight during which they will enjoy a few minutes of weightlessness.

The mothership will take off from the America Spaceport, in New Mexico (USA).

This same Monday, Bezos announced that his guest of honor on the July 20 flight of the New Sephard will be veteran pilot Wally Funk, one of the 'Mercury 13' that NASA did not allow him to become astronauts, despite his excellent preparation and capabilities, being a woman.

At 82, Funk will become the oldest person to travel to space.

Along with the two brothers Bezos and Funk will travel another person, whose identity has not yet been revealed, who has paid 23 million euros at auction to live this space experience.
