Publicity

Threat of a third wave of coronavirus, as India's main vaccine supplier of the Covax system is not expected to resume deliveries until fall.

This new wave promises to be more powerful than the previous ones.

More than 200,000 cases were reported last week on the continent.

The director of WHO Africa was concerned this Thursday, July 1, in particular the presence of the Delta variant, detected in almost all cases of contamination in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and even more in Uganda.

However, 1% of the African population is fully vaccinated.

The third wave of Covid-19 is wreaking havoc in Africa?

But there you have it, as

Wakat Sera puts it

, "

diseases are in the South and drugs in the North

 ".

To make matters worse, this bad shot for vaccination in Africa: it being emphasized that most Africans vaccinated have agreed to receive their doses of vaccines in order to undertake the trip to Europe, many countries of the European Union, under which France, do not accept the Covishield vaccine because it is not, at this stage, recognized by the European health authorities.

"

Easy translation into French […]: the vaccine sent to Africa does not allow" to go behind the sea "

,

that is to say in Europe

, is all the more sorry

Wakat Sera,

that it is mainly this type of vaccine which is offered, with great publicity, by the “generous” donors of the Covax initiative

 ”, deplores this Ouagalan daily.

Exactly.

In France too, the Covax system, designed to share vaccine doses against the coronavirus with poor countries, is criticized on the front page of

La Croix

.

Vaccines, Africa is still waiting

", indignantly in the headlines of this Catholic daily.

After recalling the alarm of the World Health Organization according to which the third wave of coronavirus which threatens Africa, that of the Delta variant, "

risks being the worst

", La Croix

notes that the Covax system is today 'hui "

down

" and reports that the Serum Institute of India, the world's largest producer of vaccines and so far main supplier of the Covax system, "

should not resume deliveries until the fall

 ".

In Côte d'Ivoire, the PDCI-RDA is preparing to welcome, tomorrow at 6 p.m. local time, in Abidjan, the former mayor of the Plateau Noël Akossy Bendjo, returning from three years of exile

Vice-president of the PDCI, executive secretary in charge of the organization and mobilization of the party created by the father of the Ivorian Nation Félix Houphouët-Boigny and member of his political office, Noël Akossy-Bendjo returns "

with the agreement of the government

”, launches the front page of the daily

Le Nouveau Réveil

. But this newspaper close to the PDCI is not the only one to report this return from exile. His colleagues from the newspaper Le

Bélier Intrepide

also reported it in the front page, as did

L'Héritage

. Which newspaper invites activists "

to go massively to the headquarters of the PDCI-RDA in Cocody

 ". And the newspaper

Today

, close to the former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, reports that no less than "

2

500 activists are expected at the party headquarters to reserve the best welcome

"to the former mayor of the Plateau, Abidjan.

In Ethiopia, rebels are retaking control of Tigray province

And in France, the daily

Le Monde

, in turn, wonders if Eritrean President Issayas Afeworki has not "

let go

" of his Ethiopian ally, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. After stressing that it was "

impossible to be sure

", this evening newspaper emphasizes that in Addis Ababa, "

the coffers are empty

", that the Ethiopian Prime Minister appears as a "

single man

".

And while its power

"wavers", Le Monde

fears that beyond the region of Tigray alone,

"

the violent dynamics

 " are

 winning "

in intensity in several parts of the country […] leaving the field open to extremists who develop hate speech between ethnic groups and encourage confrontation

 ”.
