• The incidence rate is falling, but the Delta variant is progressing in Hauts-de-France.

  • The ARS estimates that this mutation of the coronavirus represents 16% of cases in the region.

  • Certain situations in the private or professional sphere are particularly at risk.

Avoid the worst.

The incidence rate continues to fall in Hauts-de-France to reach 14.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, better than the national average which is close to 19. At the same time, the Delta variant of the coronavirus is more and more present in cases of contamination detected in recent days.

The Regional Health Agency (ARS) insists on the behaviors to adopt to avoid an epidemic resumption.

According to the latest data from Public Health France, 888 people tested positive for the coronavirus last week in Hauts-de-France.

The ARS, for its part, ensures that "the first estimates in the region reveal that around 140 cases of contaminations suggestive of this variant have been identified over the last seven days".

The Delta variant therefore represents nearly 16% of new contaminations.

Weddings, travel returns and meals at work

The regional health authority investigated these cases to try to understand the chains of contamination.

The first results showed that certain situations, in the private or professional sphere, were particularly conducive to the circulation of the virus.

The ARS specifically points to weddings, returns from trips and “moments of conviviality in the company”, such as breaks or meals.

To understand a chain of contamination, a concrete example is given. A person aware of having been exposed to a risk situation did not respect isolation and declared the disease a few days later. During this time, it infected 2/3 of the people in his household and those around him. At work, she infected three employees. One of them contaminated his wife and a second two other colleagues and all the members of his household, "which caused contamination within structures welcoming children", deplores the ARS.

The agency therefore calls for the responsibility of everyone, in particular in respect of barrier gestures and isolation measures.

These precautions and a complete vaccination "are essential" to avoid an epidemic resumption.

"The vigilance and commitment of all are absolutely necessary in order to perpetuate the areas of freedom that we are all happy to have found", underlines Professor Benoît Vallet, Director General of ARS Hauts-de-France.
