Yes but for what?

YouTube has entered into a partnership with the National Center for Cinema and Animated Image (CNC).

Justine Ryst, the director of the platform for France, explains Tuesday in

Culture Médias

what this agreement consists of.

Its objective is "the professionalization of filmmakers and cinephiles youtubers", an ambition which notably involves "residencies in Cannes and Séries Mania".

Five cinema youtubers behind the scenes of Cannes

"The CNC and we are going to bring five YouTubers behind the scenes of Cannes, the biggest festival in the world, to participate in screenings and meet people in the profession. Some will also have to create small works during the festival", specifies Justine Ryst. "There will be Youtubers who are what we call cultural mediators, who talk about cinema and are cinephiles. There will also be Youtubers who are themselves filmmakers and directors. We have chosen them together with the CNC. "

YouTube will also send several of its videographers to three other film festivals.

The platform has also decided to support cinemas, with the broadcast of a video that brings together its stars and those of the big screen to promote the reopening of cinemas.

Support that is not so incongruous, according to Justine Ryst.

Support a damaged industry

"From the start, YouTube has supported the creative industry in the broad sense. Our platform is the one that brings together all forms of creation", explains the director of YouTube France.

"After 18 months of confinement, the creative industry, and in particular the film industry, was really in trouble. We thought it was really the right time to, alongside the CNC, strengthen our partnership and create this great moment with this campaign around the return to the theater. "

The program set up by YouTube will last one year, with the aim of "supporting the entire cinema ecosystem".

"The beginning of creation is everywhere", estimates Justine Ryst.

"And YouTube is very complementary to this film industry."
