The death of the Egyptian billionaire Onsi Sawiris, the father of businessman Naguib Sawiris

Today, in Cairo, businessman Onsi Naguib Sawiris, the head of the Sawiris family, and the father of businessman Naguib Sawiris, died in Cairo.

It is noteworthy that Onsi Sawiris was born in 1930, and obtained a BA in Agriculture from Cairo University in 1950. He is one of the most prominent Egyptian businessmen, and the founder and president of Orascom Group.

It was launched in the fifties through a contracting company called "Onsi and Lami" whose activity consisted of paving roads and digging irrigation canals.

In 1976, he founded Orascom General Contracting and Trading, which later became Orascom Construction Industries.

The company's activity expanded in the eighties and nineties, to include tourism, hotels, computer services and mobile phone services, to become one of the largest Egyptian companies.
