Postpone procreation.

INSEE does not only give figures that date back to several years.

With regard to births, the Statistical Institute is particularly up to date, quite simply because it manages the National Directory for the identification of natural persons, supplied by birth certificates transmitted by the municipalities.

It is thanks to this database that we know how much the birth rate has fallen in Hauts-de-France in 2021. And that is the fault of the coronavirus.

“Cumulatively since the start of 2021, the number of births has fallen by 5.2% in the region, ie the largest drop observed in mainland France,” notes INSEE.

For the month of May alone, there are 250 fewer babies than in the same period in 2020. It is also much more than the downward trend observed in recent years linked to the aging of the population and the decline in fertility.

Fun but no baby

Indeed, the reason is elsewhere.

INSEE stresses that the fall in the birth rate was more pronounced in January and February, "or 9 months after the 1st confinement" decreed to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

CQFD, the Covid to, according to the Institute, "clearly discouraged many couples to procreate".

However, as we noted in October 2020, confinements turned out to be good times to make love.

At the time, professionals in the sex accessories sector had confirmed at
