For the month of May alone, there are 250 fewer babies than in the same period in 2020. It is also much more than the downward trend observed in recent years linked to the aging of the population and the decline in fertility.

Indeed, the reason is elsewhere.
INSEE stresses that the fall in the birth rate was more pronounced in January and February, "or 9 months after the 1st confinement" decreed to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.
