The Rhône Méditerranée Corse water agency took stock of the availability of the resource in the Paca region, which is regularly affected by episodes of drought.

"Studies establish a lack of about 35 million cubic meters to meet all uses and leave sufficient flow in rivers," notes the public body.

The resource is however relatively abundant but unevenly distributed.

The Durance and the Verdon (which eventually flow into the Durance) descend from the Alps and provide 2/3.

Large developments, such as the Canal de Provence, ensure the distribution.

In detail, 2.9 billion cubic meters are consumed each year in Paca.

985 million for drinking water, 1.9 billion for irrigation and 58 million cubic meters by industry (excluding the energy sector), says the study.
