Looking back at the starting point of Lantian Ye's drama career, we have to talk about it more than 70 years ago. This is a long process, with red marks from the beginning.
Lan Lan Ye was born in 1927 in Raoyang, Hebei. When he was a child, he liked painting best.
After middle school, the 17-year-old Lantian was admitted to the Oil Painting Department of Beiping Art College (the predecessor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts) to study oil painting. At that time, he was still thinking about becoming a painter.
History changed his decision.
Since the third sister is an underground member of the CCP, he was also deeply affected and joined the revolutionary propaganda activities.
In September 1945, Lantian Ye formally joined the party.
At that time, the school's drama activities were the focus of their work.
In this way, Lantian Ye began to come into contact with drama.
"In the winter of 1944, Su Min pulled me and said that we should play a drama together." Su Min is the father of actor Pu Cunxin. He has participated in the progressive drama movement since the 1940s and is also an actor of Beijing People's Art.

Lanlanye, the temporarily changed name is still used now
Lanlanye's name is very special, but what many people don't know is that this is his own name.
His original name was Wang Runsen. In 1948, the pro-democracy movement in the big cities of the Kuomintang Controlled District was soaring. Many student theater troupes of universities and middle schools were the main force in the student movement.
Faced with this situation, the Kuomintang reactionary authorities also began to doubt many troupes and stepped up surveillance.
As the situation became tense, large numbers of people withdrew to the liberated areas.
On the day when they arrived in the liberated area, the people who received them said: "Now that you enter the liberated area, you still have relatives and friends and many relationships in the Kuomintang Controlled Area. In order not to be implicated or affected, you must change your name in the liberated area. ."
Because he didn't have time to think about it, he uttered the three words "Lanyan Ye" casually, without any meaning.
In the eyes of Lanlan Ye, the name is just a symbol.
He also mentioned in his autobiography, and he might have felt that Wang had too many surnames, so he blurted it out when he wanted to find an unusual surname.
The name Lantian Ye has been used until now.

The Tradition of Beijing People's Art
In 1952, Beijing People's Art Theater was formally established.
That year, Lantian Ye was exactly 25 years old, a standard young actor, full of longing for the future.
He said that in the early days of the establishment of the academy, many actors of Beijing Renyi did not come from academic classes, but they have accumulated all kinds of things, including their own life experiences.
“Beijing People’s Arts has no rehearsal for a long time after the establishment of the courtyard. The first thing is that the whole courtyard is divided into four major groups to experience life.” He also mentioned in his autobiography that they went to the suburbs to perform in the summer of 1953 and act in the evening , Help the fellow harvest wheat during the day.
Later, experiencing life has become one of the characteristics of Beijing People's Art.
Lanlan Ye uses Zeng Wenqing as an example. Zeng Wenqing can paint, write poems, and raise pigeons.
In order to get close to this role, he also specifically asked how to hold the pigeon in his hand so that it would not move and make it comfortable.
In the process of experiencing life, some interesting things have happened.
In the preparation of "Tea House", in order to understand all kinds of people and things about old Beijing, Lantian Yehe Yu Shizhi and Tong Chao visited two old storytelling artists. They had a very good chat and gained a lot.
It was late at night when several people returned to the dormitory. The door was locked. When they knocked on the door, they suddenly remembered that this night was the day when Dong Xingji, Chen Guorong, Zhu Xu and Song Fengyi were married.

Return to the stage over eighty-years-old
In 1987, Lan Lan Ye, who had reached the age of 60, retired from Beijing Renyi. After more than 20 years, he completely left the stage of drama.
It was also during this period of time that he filmed many film and television dramas such as "Feng Shen Bang" and "Desire".
However, Lanlan Ye said in an interview later that he was a bit repulsive when he started filming TV series.
"I always feel that I am engaged in the stage, and the long filming time is a delay."
After the 1990s, Lanlan Ye picked up his favorite brushes, devoted himself to the creation of Chinese painting, and held many solo exhibitions.

In 2011, Zhang Heping, then dean of Beijing People's Art, used a "Hongmen Banquet" to find Lantian Ye.

In 1957, Lantian Ye was praised for his bookish qualities for playing Zeng Wenqing.
Sixty-four years have passed. Although the young man was full of silver hair, his bookish qualities have not diminished in the slightest.
After years of tempering on the drama stage, Lanlan Ye's voice is still loud, his speech is slow and logical, and there is no extra word.
In 2020, he also said that he would like to perform on stage again in the future.
Lantian Ye has mentioned many times that in order to create a distinctive character on the stage and screen, the performance method is very important, but more important than the performance method is the cultural accomplishment and life accumulation.
