As the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics approach, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has launched a specialized unit for patrols and job questions around the venue of the Games.

The unit called "Special Support Team" was launched on the 29th, and consists of about 50 police officers with high skill in questioning duties.

At the inauguration ceremony held at the Metropolitan Police Department headquarters, Hiroyuki Takayanagi, regional director, advised that "we want you to take all possible measures to maintain security and ensure safety and security through active activities."

The unit is scheduled to start activities in conjunction with the torch relay that will start in Tokyo from July 9th, in order to patrol and guard against suspicious persons around the venue and the Olympic Village.

The Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will be held at 43 competition venues, mainly in Tokyo, and the Metropolitan Police Department and others will be on the largest scale ever, including support units from all over the country.
