The owner of the house has no obvious connections to Bauer and how the passport ended up in the house is unclear.

It is clear, however, that the passport was issued on 16 October 1918, and that John Bauer's last trip abroad was to Copenhagen on 23 October the same year.

There he was responsible for the exhibition "The circle, Swedish art - paintings and sculptures".

The exhibition was Bauer's last work before the accident on Lake Vättern on November 20, 2018, when 24 people, including Bauer and his wife and son, died when the steamboat Per Brahe sank.

The passport is now part of Jönköping County City Museum's John Bauer collection.

"People rarely hear about new unknown original documents concerning Bauer.

That is why we are extremely happy to acquire this passport for our collections ", says archivist Henrik Johansson in a press release.
