Sunday June 20, 2021,

Patrice Motsepe

celebrated his 100 days at the head of CAF.

The South African, who officially succeeded Ahmad Ahmad on March 12, unveiled his intentions on this occasion, through a press release titled "Make CAF more competitive and self-sufficient".

The former businessman spoke of several reflections carried out since his arrival at the presidency of CAF.

Patrice Motsepe met a number of managers and sponsors and regretted that they had "

a mediocre or even negative perception of CAF

".

These impressions, confirmed by a report drawn up by the audit firm Price Waterhouse Coopers, prompted the institution to "

implement

 " certain recommendations and "to

ensure that inappropriate transactions, irregular and contrary practices 'ethics do not reproduce

'.

"Learn from the failure of the big European clubs"

After having detailed a whole arsenal of measures to be taken or possible measures, Patrice Motsepe broached another subject which arouses much discussion on the continent.

If he had been very discreet about this at the time of his election, the president of CAF is indeed open to a

Super League

in Africa.

We are examining the advisability of creating an

African Super League

and discussions in this regard have already taken place,

" he said in his statement.

The same project, launched brutally in Europe by 12 of the biggest clubs in the world, had provoked a large outcry and led the said project to

its implosion

in the space of a few hours. This fiasco does not seem to worry CAF. On the contrary, it will even serve as an example for him not to follow. "

We have followed the

attempt of certain big European clubs

to set up such a competition and will try to learn from their failure

 ", assures Patrice Motsepe.

The South African intends to "

continue to visit member associations to better understand their interests and expose them to those of CAF

".

The project of an African Super League is well in the making.

It remains to be seen whether he will have the means to go to the end.
