Archaeologists and astronomers follow the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the church of the historic monastery of the Archangel Michael, located in the district of Kafr al-Deir in Tallin, in the city of Minya al-Qamh in the Sharkia Governorate, a monastery that dates back to the fourth century AD, a phenomenon that occurs on June 19, every year.

The historical astronomical phenomenon, whose renewal is awaited today, was discovered during the restoration work of a team of engineers and restorers of the archaeological and historical monuments in the monastery and its church. The team was led by Magdi Ghobrial, one of the Egyptian architects active in the field of restoration of heritage buildings.

The Astronomy Department of the Egyptian National Center for Astronomical and Geophysical Research has studied and monitored this phenomenon, through a team of scientists from the institute, which included: Ashraf Latif Tadros, Samir Nawar, and Abdel Qader Bishara, as the institute confirmed the validity of the phenomenon astronomer.

The center’s scientists discussed this phenomenon in a scientific symposium, titled “The Sun Perpendicular Again to the Descendants of the Pharaohs.” The center’s scientists described that event as “a rare, unique and unique event at the level of the churches of the world.”

Gabriel, the head of the team that discovered the phenomenon by chance, said: "The sun's rays perpendicular to the altar of the venerable Archangel Michael on June 19 every year... in addition to its perpendicularity on the altar of the great martyr Mary Gerges, on the day of his martyrdom, which falls on May 1 of every year ».

Gabriel added that this phenomenon confirms the creativity of the Egyptian Coptic engineer, who inherited astronomy from his ancestors, the Pharaohs, who applied the same astronomical and engineering theory when building ancient Egyptian temples and shrines.

It is known that the ancient Egyptians excelled in the fields of astronomy and engineering, and ancient Egyptian temples and shrines witness many astronomical phenomena, which demonstrate the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians in astronomy, and refers to the role that light played in determining the trends of ancient Egyptian architecture, especially religious architecture at the time. .
