The Russian authorities arrested a man on suspicion of murder after the death of a US student.

The body of the "missing foreign student" was found and a man from Nizhny Novgorod born in 1977 was arrested, the Russian investigation committee responsible for serious crimes said on Saturday.

The suspect has already been convicted of serious crimes several times.

The 34-year-old woman has been missing since Tuesday evening after leaving her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod, western Russia, and allegedly getting into a stranger's car.

In her last text message to her mother, the woman wrote: “In the car with a stranger.

I hope I won't be kidnapped. "

According to her mother, the thirty-four-year-old was in a hurry because of a problem with a hospital bill.

It is possible that she did not wait for her Uber ride, but hitchhiked, the mother told the US radio station NPR on Friday.

The young woman moved from California to Nizhny Novgorod in 2019 for a master's degree in law.

She then wanted to return to the USA to work as a lawyer.
