The Egyptian judiciary issues its verdict in the “airport harasser” case

An Egyptian court sentenced an employee at Cairo Airport to three years in prison for "violating the sanctity of a woman's private life", in an incident that sparked widespread controversy in Egypt during the past two days.



The court issued a decision to fine the employee 20,000 Egyptian pounds (about $1,277), and confiscated the phone used for filming.

The Egyptian blogger, Basma Bishai, had published the details of the incident on social media platforms and said that one of the workers at Cairo Airport had filmed it from behind.


The video clip spread widely of the blogger crying and complaining that she had been photographed for the purpose of harassment.

The employee denied what was attributed to him, and said in the investigations of the prosecution that he took the pictures with the aim of documenting the crowding in which the victim was in to present it to his superiors, denying his intention to photograph them in the way they appeared.
