The situation continues to improve at the hospital

The pressure continued to decrease Thursday in hospitals, which have less than 12,000 hospitalized Covid-19 patients, according to figures from Public Health France. The largest hospital group in France, the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), on Thursday lifted its "white plan", "in view of the favorable development of trends that we have known for several weeks", announced its direction.

In detail in France, on the side of hospitals, the pressure of the epidemic continued to ease, with 11,114 patients with Covid-19 hospitalized, against 11,519 the day before, according to data from Public Health France.

Only 198 new people were hospitalized with a diagnosis of Covid-19.

1,799 people were in critical care services, which take care of the most serious cases, against 1,873 on Wednesday.

These services recorded 39 new admissions in 24 hours.

In nursing homes, 81% of residents are now vaccinated

81.1% of nursing home residents are fully vaccinated against Covid-19, but only 41.9% of professionals in these establishments, according to new data released Thursday by Public Health France (SpF).

The health agency had stopped publishing these indicators for several weeks, having found that they were overestimated.

Thursday morning, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran threatened to make vaccination compulsory for caregivers, especially in nursing homes, believing that they could "not be less vaccinated than the general population." There are 60% of French adults who have already received an injection, there are less than 60% of caregivers who work in nursing homes, this is not justifiable, "he added.

"I call on employers, employees in nursing homes to be vaccinated", he continued, warning that "if by the end of the summer it should not improve, then yes, we we would ask the question of a vaccination obligation for these particular audiences ".

A target of 35 million French people vaccinated by the end of August

More than a quarter of the French population is now fully vaccinated against Covid-19, according to figures released Wednesday by the Ministry of Health. "16,953,092 people have a complete vaccination schedule", that is, they have received two injections, or only one if they have been vaccinated with Janssen's product (single dose) or if they have already had had the Covid before. That's about 25.4% of the population (and 32.3% of the adult population), up from around 24.7% on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health announced Tuesday that the time between two injections of an anti-Covid vaccine with messenger RNA, Pfizer or Moderna, is reduced to a minimum of three weeks.

The stated objective is to vaccinate the French more quickly before leaving on vacation and to fight against the spread of the Delta variant, of Indian origin.

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister set a target of 35 million French people fully vaccinated by the end of August.

He also wanted 85% of people over 50, and adults suffering from comorbidities, to have received at least one injection by this time.

Discotheques "due to reopen in July"

The end of the crisis for nightclubs?

"In July, the discotheques will have to reopen, with specific conditions", announced Thursday the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran on BFMTV.

The Minister of Health returned to the meeting of June 21 for details, in particular on the precise date of reopening.

More than 10,000 cases in 24 hours in the UK, a first since February

British health authorities on Thursday recorded 11,007 new cases of coronavirus contamination in 24 hours, exceeding 10,000 for the first time since the end of February against a backdrop of an outbreak of the Delta variant initially detected in India.

European country most bereaved by the pandemic with 127,945 dead, the United Kingdom saw its health situation improve markedly in the spring thanks to a long confinement and a very effective vaccination campaign.

But the feeling of victory in the face of the virus is clouded by the sudden degradation observed in recent times.

This trend, marked by a 33.7% jump in contamination in one week, forced the British government on Monday to postpone the total lifting of health restrictions by four weeks.

Explosion of Covid cases in Moscow: new variants suspected

The Russian capital suspects "new variants" of the coronavirus, the mayor of Moscow said Thursday to explain the sudden worsening of the epidemic in the city, where the vaccination campaign has been slipping for months.

"The most likely is that we are facing new variants, more aggressive and which spread more quickly," said Sergei Sobyanin during a meeting by video conference with government officials responsible for the fight against Covid.

He noted that the cases detected daily in the capital rose in a few days from "3,000 to 7,000 and tomorrow (Friday), according to preliminary data, the number could be more than 9,000".

"It's triple, it's a huge dynamic that we had not seen in previous waves," he added.

Germany reopens its doors to vaccinated non-EU travelers

Germany will once again authorize from June 25 the entry into its territory of fully vaccinated travelers from countries outside the European Union, the government of Angela Merkel announced Thursday.

New restrictions in the region of Lisbon, Portugal

Contrary to the easing of health restrictions in several European countries, the Portuguese government decided on Thursday to ban entry and exit from the Lisbon region during the weekend, to prevent the increase in Covid cases from spreading to the rest of the territory.

Portugal had recorded 1,350 new cases of coronavirus the day before in 24 hours, the highest daily figure since the end of February.

More than 3.8 million deaths worldwide

The pandemic has killed more than 3,835,238 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to a report established by AFP from official sources Thursday at 10 am GMT.

After the United States (600,941 deaths), the countries with the highest number of deaths are Brazil (496,004) and India (381,903).

These figures, which are based on daily reports from national health authorities, are generally underestimated. The WHO estimates that the toll of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
