Targeted screening measures put in place

In France, the Delta variant remains largely in the minority with 2 to 4% of positive cases according to the Minister of Health Olivier Veran.

But the number of cases quadrupled in three weeks, with 50 to 150 diagnoses per day.

The health authorities have detected several outbreaks of community contaminations, in Strasbourg, in the Landes, in Ile-de-France and in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

Each time, targeted screening measures were put in place.

More contagious than the British variant

But there is still a risk that this variant will become the majority, because it is more contagious than the British variant.

"The virus is still there. We remain under the threat of the spread of the Delta variant, even if we have as a weapon the seasonal state which should be favorable and especially the increase in the cost of vaccination", confides Daniel Levy-Bruhl, epidemiologist at Public Health France, at the microphone of Europe 1. Despite the encouraging drop in contamination and hospitalizations, he calls for caution.

According to a British study, the messenger RNA and Astra Zeneca vaccines remain effective against the Delta variant by more than 90%, provided that both doses have been correctly received.

In the meantime, barrier gestures, wearing a mask and distance remain relevant.
