An internationally active cellist held a mini concert at a high school in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, in an attempt to encourage high school students affected by the new coronavirus at school events.

On the 18th, Mr. Dai Miyata, a cellist who won the first Japanese cellist at the international cello competition 12 years ago, visited the prefectural arts general high school in Tokorozawa.

A mini-concert was held to encourage high school students affected by the spread of the infection, such as the cultural festival being canceled and the regular concerts being reduced in scale, and about 80 music students participated.

Mr. Miyata performed five songs such as Saint-Saens's "Swan" and Caccini's "Ave Maria" on his favorite 1698 Stradivarius cello.

After that, two students played the piano and flute, and Mr. Miyata advised me, "I want you to take good care of your emotions and be confident without fear of making mistakes."

A third-year female student said, "It's very expressive and wonderful, and I learned a lot and got energized."

Mr. Miyata said, "I played with the hope that the students would be energized. I want them to improve their performances that only they can do."
