In Lyon, the congestion rate, which measures the level of traffic jams in an urban area according to the increase in journey times, has risen sharply since the first phase of deconfinement on May 3.

According to figures released this Thursday by TomTom, the current rate exceeds that recorded for the year 2019 at the same period.

It even increased by 20% on average.

Traffic had, moreover, slowed down sharply during the entire period of the third confinement since the rate of congestion observed was two times lower "than normal".

Difficult traffic on weekends too

Rush hour traffic is difficult again.

Over the last 15 days, it has systematically exceeded the average peak for equivalent days in 2019. For example, on a typical Ecully-Part-Dieu trip, the average journey time between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. was around 29 minutes .

That is almost 3 minutes more than in June 2019. And 19 minutes more than in April.

And it's not better on weekends.

Here again, the congestion rate may have been close to 30% while it was 22% on “ordinary” Saturdays.
