Faced for several years with "economic difficulties", the manadiers, bull breeders in the Camargue, wrote an open letter to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.

This letter is signed by Florent Lupi, the president of the Federation of manadiers of France, and by André Brundu (without label), the president of the community of communes Petite Camargue.

Although a party, faced with the crisis, has diversified, the sector is based "on a precarious balance, between agro-tourism, traditional festivities and the sale of meat", writes the Federation of manadiers.

And "some manades risk disappearing".

With it, "a recognized and consecrated French cultural part would be wiped out", and that would "have dramatic consequences for the local economy", indicates the letter.

When will the votive festivals resume?

The herdsmen are notably asking for the extension of the state solidarity fund, and a 10% VAT rate for Camargue races and traditional activities.

Among the problems raised by the letter of the manadiers, the votive festivals, essential for the sector.

"Despite the deconfinement measures, communities and manadiers remain uncertain" about their organization, while "certain large-scale events, like the Tour de France, are authorized".

The Federation of manadiers of France brings together 220 manades, mainly in Hérault, Gard, Vaucluse and Bouches-du-Rhône, or 50,000 hectares.
