For François Bayrou, the management of the health crisis by Emmanuel Macron will have been a success.

"There is something very positive in French opinion, it is that it notes that the choice of the President of the Republic has succeeded, unlike all the judgments of the opponents", pleaded Wednesday the boss of the Modem before the Association of Parliamentary Journalists (AJP).

“The French understand this very well, and I believe they are grateful to the President of the Republic.

They think he held his own against everyone and that it was he who was right, ”he added.

François Bayrou was speaking shortly before the announcement by Prime Minister Jean Castex that wearing a mask outside would no longer be compulsory from Thursday, and that the curfew set at 11 p.m. would be lifted as of Sunday .

The morale of the French "better than they say"

Emmanuel Macron was strongly criticized by part of the opposition and the medical profession after his decision not to reconfine in February and subsequently to ease health restrictions while intensive care services were still saturated and the level of contaminations was still high.

But he felt in general that the easing of health constraints already started was reflected in renewed optimism in the country.

"How do I feel the country?

Better than we say, from the point of view of his morale, because openness, the return to a kind of freedom of behavior, of meetings, of visits, of sharing a drink, a meal, brings something, ”he noted.
