15 years in prison for a Spaniard who killed his mother and "eating her meat"

A Madrid court announced on Tuesday that a Spanish man has been sentenced to 15 years and five months in prison for strangling his mother and eating parts of her body after cutting him to pieces.

In its decision, the court considered that the man, who was called "Ventas cannibal", a neighborhood name in Madrid in which the police found the mother's body parts, was in full "mental abilities when the facts occurred" between January 21 and February 21, 2019, and will serve his sentence in the prison.

The court stated that it decided to imprison Albert SG for 15 years, for “murder with aggravating circumstances of family ties,” in addition to a five-month prison sentence for “desecrating the corpse,” in which the man slaughtered his mother and then “eat her corpse for at least 15 days.”

Albert had quarreled with his 69-year-old mother in early 2019 in the apartment they lived in in the Las Ventas neighborhood, famous for its bullrings.

The prosecution stated in the indictment that he strangled her, then dragged her body to his room, where he cut it with a saw and kitchen knives to "hide it."

"After cutting the body to pieces, the accused would feed from time to time on the remains of the body, and store the other pieces in several plastic containers in the apartment and in the refrigerator," she added.

He also put other body parts in garbage bags and threw them away.

And local media indicated that a policeman testified during the trial, and said that when he entered the apartment, the accused confirmed that he ate some raw pieces, cooked others, and gave some to his dog.

The man, who police said had drug problems, was arrested in February 2019 while police were looking for his mother, who had reported missing from a friend of hers.

Contrary to what the defense tried to prove during the trial, the court ruled that there was “no evidence” that the accused was not of sound mind.

In addition to this prison sentence, the man will have to pay compensation of 60,000 euros to his brother.
