• The thirteen departments of Occitanie have fallen below the alert threshold for the circulation of the Covid.

  • Suspicions of the Delta variant are so far very sporadic.

  • But the ARS remains cautious and commits to continuing to accelerate vaccination.

In Occitania, we have to go back a year to find such engaging epidemic indicators.

According to the regional health agency (ARS), all the departments in the region are now below the alert threshold (set at 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

The positivity rate for tests has fallen to 1.2% on average, from 8% two months ago, and the regional incidence rate is 32 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, 15 cases even among over 65, earlier vaccinated.

It is 43 in Haute-Garonne, 39 in Gers or 34 in Hérault to name just these departments.

These optimistic curves are reflected in hospitals where the tension has eased considerably with now around a hundred patients still in critical care.

New vaccination opportunities

The news is also good on the side of the variants, and in particular of the Delta variant (ex-Indian variant). It is not involved in any cluster for the time being and the suspicions "mutations of interest" likely to be linked to it "can be counted on the fingers of one hand", indicates this Tuesday Pierre Ricordeau, the director general of the ARS. But the health manager wants to remain cautious. "Summer is looking good, but we also know that a summer without difficulty can translate into a difficult fall and there is, as a new element, the question of variants," he warns.

It remains to win "the race against the clock of vaccination" because collective immunity is far from being reached.

About 58% of adults in the region have received a first injection, 32% have "a complete vaccination schedule".

In addition, new niches are opening up since 1.3 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine are announced in vaccination centers for this month of June against 900,000 in May.

The ARS does not detect, or not yet, a possible stop in the vaccine craze.

On Friday, June 11, Occitanie broke its record with 65,000 injections.
