Do you happen to know a director who wants to make a mystical horror film? If suddenly there is, then I'm ready to throw him a story from life. You can call our film modestly, but tastefully: "The Enchanted Door". And it will tell the story of this: in a certain thirty-tenth kingdom-state there is one richly decorated door. And it seems that this door is even open. But you can't enter it anyway. And some really want to do it. And so they push, push, torture and torture everyone around, and "things are still there."
Are you not enthusiastic about my ability as a feature film screenwriter? And I myself am not delighted - especially since this plot was actually not invented by me at all. So attention and drum roll! I'm starting to list the real authors of the plot and the leading actors. NATO plays the role of an enchanted door. Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, is the current guardian and oiler of the enchanted door. The role of the one who has been beating against this supposedly open door for many years is the modern Ukrainian political class. The role of the one who is forced to enter this door is the Ukrainian people.
Now let's move on to a detailed study of the script. This is what I think needs to be done with the first scene. June 2021. Jens Stoltenberg, the enchanted door greaserer, speaks at the German Marshall Fund * (an organization declared undesirable in Russia) in an online discussion ahead of the next NATO summit. And at the same time he says, among other things, the following words: “We confirm the decision of the summit in Bucharest with regard to Georgia and Ukraine, that NATO's door remains open and Russia has no influence on this process. We didn’t say anything about the terms of accession then and we will not speak now ”.
What is this NATO summit in Bucharest, at which the alliance for the first time "opened its door wide open" for Ukraine? It was in April 2008 (13 years ago - a useful detail for a mystical horror film). The door lubricator (oh, sorry, the secretary general of the North Atlantic Alliance) was then the representative of the Netherlands, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. He was soon replaced by the Dane Anders Fogh Rasmussen. After five years, Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg was appointed as the lubricator. And Ukraine is still unable to enter the enchanted door of NATO.
An important clarification: before the coup d'état in Kiev in 2014 (oh, sorry again, before the "revolution of dignity"), the authorities in Ukraine were still actively interested in the opinion of their own people about the prospects for the country's joining NATO. And since this opinion was negative, no one from the Ukrainian side particularly stormed the notorious enchanted door. But the "ideals of the Maidan" imply that people do not need to ask much. Accession to NATO has become the goal of official Kiev in earnest. But the Ukrainian political class has so far failed to drag its people into the "open door" of the North Atlantic Alliance.
I anticipate a new attack on my abilities as a screenwriter of a mystical horror film.
So I can hear you say to me: “You, brother, are completely confused!
You get a political drama with a pronounced happy ending!
And you keep repeating about some mystical horror movie! "
I understand the reproach, but I do not accept it.
The situation is made into a horror movie by the sacrifices made by the Ukrainian political elite, trying to push their country into the North Atlantic Alliance.
Ukraine squeezed Crimea out of itself.
Ukraine started a bloody civil war in Donbass.
And for what purpose was it all done?
For the mythical "security guarantees" that the country will allegedly receive by becoming a full member of NATO.
Have I convinced you now that this is a mystical horror film? I am sure that yes. The word "horror" is very appropriate here. Before the Kiev political class fell under the spell of NATO's enchanted open door, Ukraine’s security was doing very well. But after the spell began to work, the entire Ukrainian security system began to fall apart. Who is to blame for this? Kiev politicians unanimously answer that Russia. But this is a false answer. Kiev servants of the people can get a truthful answer if they look in the mirror. And if they do not like what they see there, then there is a well-known proverb used by the famous Russian writer Nikolai Gogol: “There is no reason to blame the mirror if the face is crooked”.
Kiev politicians confused the goal (ensuring the country's national security) with the method of achieving this goal (joining NATO).
And since the method was chosen incorrectly, it turned out to be a complete gibberish.
Of course, NATO only benefits from this.
From the point of view of the bosses of the North Atlantic Alliance, everything described above is not a horror movie, but a light comedy of situations.
But looking at what is happening from the point of view of NATO bosses is definitely not our task.
Our task is to help the Ukrainian people to realize that it is not worth living inside a horror movie.
NATO's "open door" is not worth destroying your own country for its sake.
