Until then, only very small dogs were allowed to board Lyon's subways, buses or trams.

As long as they are carried by their owners in a handbag or backpack.

The situation will change.

The Sytral, which manages the public transport network of Lyon, voted in the implementation of an experiment which begins this Tuesday.

Large and medium sized doggies can now take the metro or board the buses provided their owners buy a “Waf” ticket.

This ticket is sold for 1 euro for the day or 10 euros for the month.

Note that it will be free for travelers already benefiting from a "free solidarity" or "reduced solidarity" subscription.

Be careful, however, do not imagine that your four-legged friends can walk quietly between the seats.

They must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle.

The experiment will last until November 30.

Sytral will then decide whether or not to perpetuate it.
