Before the memorial day on the 23rd of this month to mourn the people who died in the Battle of Okinawa, Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture will be newly added to the "Cornerstone of Peace" with the names of the war dead. The work of engraving a person's name has begun.

The "Cornerstone of Peace" in the Peace Memorial Park in Itoman City, Okinawa Prefecture, is engraved with the names of more than 240,000 people who were killed in the Battle of Okinawa, and the names of the newly declared war dead are engraved every year. It has been added.



Forty-one people will be added this time, and the work of engraving the name at the stone factory in Nanjo City will start on the 15th, and the craftsmen will use abrasives on a black stone board about 1 meter high and 1 meter 50 cm wide. I was spraying and carving the name.

Of the 41 people, 38 are from Okinawa and 3 are from outside the prefecture.



The number of people whose names are engraved on the "Cornerstone of Peace" is 241,632.



The finished board will be installed at the Peace Memorial Park on the 17th.
