Corona’s long-term symptoms and effects... Cases that require medical assistance after recovery

There are no reliable figures on the number of people suffering from the long-term consequences of corona

After recovering from infection with the Corona virus, patients may develop symptoms and long-term effects such as fatigue, loss of concentration, and some psychological problems such as anxiety and intense fear.

These effects also require some treatment in what is known as rehabilitation.

With regard to the long-term effects of “Corona”, a distinction is made between two forms, namely: Post Covid and Long Covid.

Sometimes both are used synonymously, and Post Covid is also seen as an umbrella term for all of the long-term consequences of COVID-19.

In fact, there is still no universal definition of the two phenomena.

However, Post Covid means the more or less direct consequences of a dangerous cycle.

As a result of prolonged lying down, the muscles break down, and a healthy breathing pattern must be learned again.

It is possible to damage the lungs, heart, kidneys and central nervous system, as well as psychological disorders such as anxiety and tension as a result of fears of death.

Professor Volker Kollner, chief psychosomatic physician at the German DRV Rehabilitation Center, explained that patients in these cases require rehabilitation and psychological care in individual doses.

The other form is Long Covid, and this can also affect people who have had a mild form of the disease.

Patients feel fine for a long period of weeks and sometimes months until they develop symptoms of chronic fatigue and shortness of breath.

The treatment approach here is often a combination of behavioral therapy and exercise therapy.

German pulmonologist Jordis Vormhold explained that patients here are often younger.

There are no reliable figures on the number of people who suffer from the long-term consequences of corona.

The World Health Organization estimates that three months after contracting the virus, about one in 10 people still had restrictions.

In general, Vormhold recommends seeking medical help for anyone who has recovered and is otherwise healthy, and develops symptoms such as marked fatigue, forgetfulness, severe hair loss, joint and muscle pain, increased heart rate or depression months or even later, severely restricting daily life.
