China News Service, Kunming, June 13th (Miao Chao) The "Asian Elephant Protection Media Meeting" was held on the 13th at the Yimen County Site Command of the Asian Elephant Group's safety precautions that moved north from Yunnan.

The reporter learned at the meeting that Yunnan will try to take advantage of favorable conditions such as rainfall and cooling to help Asian elephants migrating northward gradually return to suitable habitats through scientific, appropriate feeding guidance, and a combination of dredging and blocking methods.

The director of the Wildlife Protection Division of the Yunnan Forestry and Grassland Bureau, Xiang Ruwu, introduced that in order to properly resolve the Asian elephants moving northward, Yunnan adheres to the principle of “no harm or death of the elephants”. Ground personnel and drone tracking are combined and analyzed. The activity trajectory of the elephant group is studied in advance to determine the movement of the elephant group in advance, and the traffic control in the area that the Asian elephant may pass through is advanced.

In the work, physical isolation, dynamic alarms, and food delivery were used to intervene in the activities of the target group, and successfully prevented the elephant group from entering villages, large cities, and densely populated areas.

Xiang Ruwu said that in the near future, Yunnan will try to take advantage of favorable conditions such as rainfall and cooling to help Asian elephants migrating north return to their habitat in Xishuangbanna through a combination of scientific, appropriate feeding, lure, and blockage methods.

In addition, Yunnan has initiated public liability insurance for wild animal accidents to determine damages and compensation for the economic and property losses caused by Asian elephants moving northward. Once the statistical damage determination is completed, the residents along the route will be compensated for their losses.

"At present, the public liability insurance for wild animal accidents has covered the whole province of Yunnan, and the public does not need to purchase it separately." Xiang Ruwu said.

It is understood that in 2010, the world's first public liability insurance for wild animal accidents was launched in Xishuangbanna. The insurance coverage covers the key national and Yunnan province's key protection of terrestrial wild animals. The property losses and personal injuries caused by the people will be compensated in accordance with certain compensation standards.
